چکیده

The rate of oxygen uptake of quiescent papillary muscle of the cat heart has been determined in a flow respirometer with the use of the oxygen electrode. The apparent rate of oxygen uptake as a function of the diameter of the muscle was also determined. It was found that papillary muscles from cat hearts use oxygen at a rate of 2.84 (microliters/mg. wet weight)/hour at a temperature of 35 degrees C. Such muscles can be adequately supplied by diffusion when their surface is uniformly exposed to an atmosphere containing 95 per cent oxygen only if their diameter is 0.64 mm. or less. Papillary muscles from kitten hearts use oxygen at a rate of 4.05 (microliters/mg. wet weight)/hour at a temperature of 35 degrees C. Such muscles can be adequately supplied by diffusion when their surface is uniformly exposed to an atmosphere containing 95 per cent oxygen only if their diameter is 0.53 mm. or less. If the muscles are small enough to be adequately supplied with oxygen by diffusion, the rate of oxygen uptake does not increase when the muscle is stretched.

Hand Grip Strength and Myocardial Oxygen Consumption Index among Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting Patients

Background: Hand grip strength (HGS) is a reliable indicator of peripheral muscle strength. Although, numerous studies have investigated the strength of hand grip; little attention has been given to coronary artery disease (CAD) patients, exploring the relationship between HGS and myocardial oxygen consumption (MVO2) index. The current study aimed to evaluate the interaction between HGS and MVO...

Effect of Cardiac Rehabilitation on Heart Rate and Functional Capacity in Patients After Myocardial Infarction

Objectives: The primary purpose of this study was to determine the methods and means of prevention and treatment of coronary artery disease. In this study, we used a new regimen on heart rate and functional capacity of patients after myocardial infarction. This study also determines the effect of a new regimen on these factors. Methods: The cross sectional study was designed to assess the clin...

AN ANALYTICAL SOLUTION FOR DIFFUSION AND NONLINEAR UPTAKE OF OXYGEN IN THE RETINA

A simple mathematical model of steady state  oxygen distribution subject to diffusive transport and non- linear uptake in a retinal cylinder has been developed. The approximate analytical solution to a reaction- diffusion equation are obtained by using series expansions. The computational results for the scaled variables are presented through graphs. The effect of the important parameters (1) d...

The effect of twelve weeks of aerobic interval training on liver complications and cardiovascular risk factors in men with type 2 diabetes

Background & Aims: One of the main complications of type 2 diabetes is cardiovascular complications, which greatly increases mortality and reduces the quality of life of these patients. Complications of type 2 diabetes, which are known as cardiovascular risk factors, include dyslipidemia (1, 3) and high blood pressure, which are common diseases in type 2 diabetes (1, 4). Another complication of...

Effects of norepinephine, calcium, and rate of discharge on 42K movements in canine cardiac Purkinje fibers.

We studied the effect of norepinephrine, calcium concentration, and rate of discharge in the presence of different [Ca2+]0 on radioactive potassium movements in cardiac Purkinje fibers. The following results were obtained: (1) norepinephrine increases potassium uptake in quiescent fibers and in fibers driven at constant rate, but more in the latter; (2) norepinephrine also increases potassium u...
